    • Meet San Lorenzo Ruiz

Lorenzo Ruiz, a young man who joined the Dominican Confraternity of the Most Holy Rosary, later married Rosario, and they had three children. In 1636, he was accused of murder and fled the Philippines with three Dominican priests. They arrived in Japan, where the Tokugawa Shogunate was persecuting Christians. Lorenzo was arrested and tortured but refused to renounce his faith, ultimately dying on September 27, 1637. His last words were, "I am a Catholic and wholeheartedly do accept death for God."  Saint Lorenzo Ruiz is the patron saint of Filipino youth, the Philippines, people working overseas, and altar servers. His feast day is September 28.

    • Bishop Ed Clark's Bishop's Chair and Coat of Arms

You have probably noticed the large fancy chair in the sanctuary of our church and wondered what it is all about. Well, the chair is the official bishop's chair of Bishop Ed Clark who is in residence here at St. Maria Goretti.

The coat-of-arms featured on the chair is not only a sign of his authority, but its symbolism is specific to the bishop himself. Read about Bishop Ed's Coat-of-Arms here.
    • What do the Priest Vestments Mean?

All the colors of the priest's vestments have a special meaning. The stole symbolizes priestly authority. The chasuble, the outer garment worn at Mass, symbolizes love and goes over the stole. "Over all these , put on love." Col. 3:14

    • The Colors of the Vestments Mean...

      • Green -  Hope “Ordinary Time”
      • Red - God's Love, blood, fire, and celebrations of Martyrs, Triduum, Pentecost
      • White/Gold - Purity, Light, Glory, and Joy, Christmas, Easter, Solemnities.
      • Violet/Purple - Penance, Sacrifice, and Preparation, Advent and Lent

    • Why can't I find the Eucharistic Prayers that  Father uses in the Missal?

In the Roman Missal or Sacramentary as it is sometimes called, there are 4 principal or commonly used Prayers. Those prayers are also featured in most missals. In addition to those prayers, there are 9 other Eucharistic Prayers that the priest may choose to use. These include prayers for Masses with Children for Reconciliation, and prayers for various needs. The text for these prayers are found in a separate book.
